Max Maths, Year 3, Try it, Comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000 (3)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 3 curriculum, students are encouraged to develop their understanding of numerical order by comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000. One of the exercises, "Arrange the numbers from smallest to greatest," is designed to help pupils recognise number sequences and place values. The task is straightforward, yet it effectively reinforces the concept of numerical order. Students are presented with a series of numbers and are asked to arrange them in ascending order, starting with the smallest and ending with the greatest. This activity not only promotes critical thinking but also enhances their familiarity with three-digit numbers.
The "Let's Practise" section provides additional exercises for students to further hone their comparison skills. In the first activity, pupils are asked to identify the greater number between two options. This exercise includes a variety of number pairs to ensure a comprehensive understanding of numerical magnitude. The second activity takes the concept a step further by requiring students to write 's' next to the smallest number and 'g' next to the greatest number in a given set. This task involves a bit more complexity, as it includes three numbers to compare. As an extension, some sets of numbers are presented in a sequence, with the task of placing the correct mathematical symbols to indicate the progression from the smallest to the greatest. These exercises are practical applications of comparison and ordering, which are fundamental mathematical skills for young learners.
