Five a Day - Number - Identify represent and estimate Rounding
Maths Resource Description
KS2Gems' "Maths Five a Day" provides a set of five SATs style questions focused on the topic of rounding numbers. This educational resource is designed to help Year 6 students identify, represent, and estimate numbers by rounding them to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, or million as required. The questions are crafted to mirror the style found in past SATs papers, offering pupils a valuable opportunity to practise and assess their understanding of rounding concepts. Following each question, the answers are provided on the subsequent slide, allowing for immediate feedback and learning reinforcement.
The activity includes a range of rounding tasks, such as completing tables by rounding numbers to the nearest hundred and estimating the number of items in a given scenario. For example, one question prompts students to round the number 63,528 to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand, with the answers being 63,530, 63,500, and 64,000 respectively. Another question challenges students to determine which of their peers made the closest and furthest estimates from the actual number of sweets in a jar. The resource concludes with a question that asks students to round a large number, 4,866,138, to the nearest million, with the answer being 5,000,000. This set of questions serves as an excellent starter activity for classes to engage in retrieval practice and to assess their knowledge of rounding numbers.
