The Even Bigger Times Table Challenge 1
Maths Resource Description
The Even Bigger Times Table Challenge 1 is an exciting and rigorous test designed for Year 5 students to assess and enhance their multiplication and division skills. This comprehensive challenge, created by KS2Gems in 2020, invites students to tackle a series of 100 arithmetic problems, covering a range of calculations that include multiplication, division, and the squaring of numbers. The goal is to complete the entire set within a five-minute timeframe, although participants can record their time if they finish in under five minutes, adding an element of speed to the test of numerical proficiency.
The challenge includes a variety of questions such as basic multiplications like "70 x 8" and "9 x 7", divisions like "72 ÷ 9" and "360 ÷ 4", as well as calculations involving squares, such as "11²" and "10²". It also tests the students' ability to handle larger numbers with questions like "8 x 1000" and "300 x 3", and to understand the relationship between multiplication and division with reverse operations like "54 ÷ 6" and "9 x 90". The challenge ends with a score out of 100, allowing students to gauge their mastery of the times tables and related arithmetic operations. This exercise is not only a test of mental arithmetic but also a fun way for students to compete against the clock and potentially against their peers.
