Properties of shape - Make patterns with 3D shapes - Starter
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Fluent in Four - Revision' activity for Year 2 students during Spring Term's Week 9, children are presented with a series of mathematical challenges to enhance their numeracy skills. The tasks are designed to cover a range of topics including arithmetic, geometry, and measurement. For instance, one of the exercises involves ordering a set of number cards from the highest to the lowest value, where students must recognize and sequence numbers such as sixteen, seventeen, and fourteen. Another task requires the children to perform simple calculations, such as finding the result of (27 + 33) ÷ 2, and to understand time concepts like 'quarter to eleven'.
The activities also delve into the properties of 3D shapes, prompting students to identify which shapes have more than five faces from a list that includes a sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, and cuboid. Additionally, the children are asked to describe the turns of pictures, understanding the difference between a quarter turn and a full turn. On a different day, the focus shifts to measurements and comparisons, where a practical scenario is used: Esin measures herself using rolls, and students must complete the sentence to describe her height. They also compare quantities using the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols (> = <). These varied exercises are aimed at developing a comprehensive understanding of basic mathematical concepts in a fun and engaging way.
