Cops and robbers - What do you know about the gunpowder plot?
History Resource Description
The "Cops and robbers" activity is an engaging group exercise designed to test and expand pupils' knowledge about the Gunpowder Plot. In groups of four, each student starts by spending two minutes writing down everything they can recall about the historical event on the left side of a chart. After this initial recall phase, they have one minute each to review the contributions of their three group members, searching for any new information that they hadn't noted themselves.
Once the pupils have observed their peers' contributions, they have the opportunity to 'steal' this newfound knowledge by adding it to the 'stolen knowledge' section of their chart. This collaborative learning strategy not only encourages active participation but also fosters knowledge sharing among the pupils. They are awarded two points for each piece of information they record, incentivizing them to learn from one another. The entire activity is designed to take approximately 15 minutes, culminating in a discussion on why it's important to remember the Gunpowder Plot and the historical implications of treason and plot in British history.
