How much do you know about the Ancient Greeks already? - Partner task
History Resource Description
The task at hand is a collaborative educational activity designed to explore the advancements of Ancient Greece in comparison to Ancient Britain. Students are encouraged to work in pairs to brainstorm and compile a list of 15 pieces of evidence highlighting the superiority of Ancient Greek civilization. This evidence should be based on their existing knowledge, particularly contrasting what they have learned about the sophisticated developments in Ancient Greece with their understanding of the Stone Age in Britain. The aim is to reflect on new information that has been recently acquired and connect it to previous learning.
The activity prompts students to consider the numerous contributions Ancient Greece has made to the world, such as in the fields of philosophy, politics, architecture, science, and the arts. They are tasked with identifying concrete examples that demonstrate how the Ancient Greeks were more advanced than their Ancient British counterparts. After formulating their statements, the pairs will then collaborate with another duo to share and discuss their findings. The ultimate goal is to reach a consensus on the 15 most compelling reasons that illustrate the advanced nature of Ancient Greek civilization. This exercise not only encourages critical thinking and teamwork but also deepens the students' appreciation for historical progress and cultural achievements.
