Cops and robbers - How much do you know about the sinking of the Titanic?
History Resource Description
The "Cops and robbers" activity is an engaging classroom exercise designed to test and enhance pupils' knowledge about historical events, specifically the sinking of the Titanic. In groups of four, pupils begin by spending two minutes jotting down everything they can recall about the event in the 'Own recalled knowledge' section of a chart. This initial phase encourages individual memory retrieval and lays the groundwork for collaborative learning.
Following the individual recall, each pupil is given 60 seconds to review the contributions made by their peers. During this time, they are on the lookout for any new information that they did not originally note down in their own section. This is where the 'Cops and robbers' aspect comes into play, as pupils 'steal' knowledge from one another, adding it to the 'Stolen knowledge' section of their chart. For each new piece of information recorded, pupils are awarded two points. The entire activity is designed to last approximately 15 minutes, creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment where information is shared and assimilated in a fun and competitive manner.
