Planning a Text-led Curriculum in EYFS - Introduction
Early Years Resource Description
The publication sets out to equip early years educators with creative and effective strategies for delivering a vibrant early years curriculum. It concentrates on two primary areas among the seven areas of learning, specifically 'Understanding the world' and 'Expressive arts and design'. These areas are explored in depth, while also integrating elements from the remaining five areas. The learning sequence is informed by the 'Development Matters' guidance, with particular attention to the educational needs of 3 and 4-year-olds, as well as children in the reception year.
In the 'Understanding the world' section, the publication delves into three principal aspects: History, Geography and community, and Science. For each aspect, it begins with a statement from 'Development Matters' and then unfolds a four-point sequence to construct a comprehensive learning journey. This journey encompasses both focused learning and continuous provision. The publication suggests a variety of texts for each aspect to foster strong connections with literacy, communication, and language skills. Furthermore, it complements another Focus Education publication titled 'Monitoring the Quality of Education in Early Years', with the intent that both resources will offer valuable guidance and support to early years practitioners and school leaders alike.
