Brightstorm - Session 16 - Word Workshop
English Resource Description
The Brightstorm Word Workshop is an educational session designed to enhance vocabulary skills among KS2 students. In each session, a variety of words are explored in depth. Students are encouraged to delve into the meanings of words such as 'haste', 'probing', and 'confusing', using them in sentences to contextualise their understanding. They are also tasked with modifying words by adding prefixes or suffixes, changing verb tenses, or altering between singular and plural forms. This exercise not only expands their vocabulary but also improves their grasp of English grammar and word formation.
Additionally, the workshop promotes critical thinking by having students identify synonyms and antonyms for each word, further enriching their linguistic acumen. For instance, they would explore words like 'release', 'threatening', and 'fierce', considering their usage in various scenarios. The session also includes words such as 'provoke', 'communicate', 'hostile', 'comprehend', 'aggressive', 'dumbstruck', 'sheepishly', 'astonishment', and 'incredible'. By the end of the session, students will have a more comprehensive understanding of these words, how to use them effectively in communication, and their relationship with other words in the English language.
