Sequence of learning - Our amazing world - EYFS
Science Resource Description
The 'Our Amazing World' curriculum for Reception-aged children encourages a deep and interactive exploration of the natural world. It is designed to inspire awe and wonder in young learners as they begin to understand the incredible diversity and processes of the environment around them. Through hands-on experiences and outdoor play, children are given the freedom to engage with nature, touching, smelling, and listening to the elements that make our planet so remarkable. The learning sequence includes drawing pictures of animals and plants, observing natural phenomena such as melting ice and floating boats, and discussing the care for our world. Key vocabulary such as 'hedgehog', 'minibeast', and 'shadow' are introduced to enrich their understanding.
As part of the Early Learning Goal, children will not only interact with the natural world but also start to recognise patterns and changes within it, such as the spinning of a spider's web or the shifting of the seasons. They will appreciate the variety of creatures that share our Earth and learn to observe them closely. The sequence of learning prompts children to appreciate the myriad patterns on Earth, from the construction of a spider's web to the formation of a rainbow. Activities such as creating a minibeast hotel or drawing from a nature table encourage creativity and inquiry. The curriculum aims to foster a lifelong appreciation for our amazing world and its inhabitants.
