Everyday Materials - Assessment

The Year One Summative Assessment on Everyday Materials is designed to evaluate a student's understanding of the properties and uses of different materials in the context of everyday objects. The assessment begins with a matching exercise where students are asked to connect objects with the materials they are made from. This is followed by a question that tests their knowledge of material properties, specifically asking them to identify a transparent object from a given set.

Further questions require students to read statements about the characteristics of various materials and decide whether they are true or false, enhancing their critical thinking skills. They are also asked to select the most appropriate material for making a shirt, soda can, window, and cereal box. This not only tests their understanding of material properties but also their ability to apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios. The assessment includes a visual task where students tick which materials are used to make objects depicted in pictures, and they complete sentences to explain their choices for particular uses, such as the material for a raincoat. Lastly, they are asked to connect properties with their correct meanings and link objects that are made from the same materials, demonstrating their grasp of material properties and their applications.
