Assessment - Music 1 - EYFS

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) assessment for Music 1, the key focus is on how children listen to, respond to, and communicate their experiences of music. Practitioners are advised to observe and note the pupils' willingness to engage with the music by listening attentively. This involves seeing if the children are able to concentrate on the music being played and give it their full attention without getting easily distracted.

Additionally, the assessment criteria include the children's capacity to articulate their perception of the music, such as describing its tempo and mood (for example, identifying if it is lively or slow). It's also important to observe the children's ability to express preferences for certain types of music and provide reasons for their choices. Furthermore, practitioners should look for the children's physical response to music, noting whether they can move in a way that is rhythmically in sync with the music. Finally, a key part of the assessment is whether the children can explain the reasoning behind their movements, demonstrating their understanding of how the music influenced their actions.
