Max Maths, Year 5, Learn together, Review of measuring length

In the Year 5 curriculum for Max Maths, students revisit the important topic of measuring length. This review session is designed to refresh their memory on the various units of measurement that are commonly used. Pupils are reminded of the four main metric units, which include millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m), and kilometres (km). The practical application of this knowledge comes to life in the 'Let's Practise' section, where students are encouraged to think critically about which unit of measurement is most appropriate for different scenarios. They are presented with a series of real-world objects and distances to measure: the width of a pencil, the distance between two cities, the length of a classroom, and the diameter of a plate. By choosing the correct unit of measurement from mm, cm, m, and km for each example, students demonstrate their understanding of scale and the relevance of each unit in practical situations.
