Max Maths, Year 3, Learn together, Division and multiplication (3)
Maths Resource Description
In this segment of the Max Maths Year 3 curriculum, students are encouraged to deepen their understanding of multiplication and division through exploring the multiplication table. The table presents a clear visual representation of multiplication facts for numbers one through ten, helping students to see the patterns and relationships between numbers. For example, the table shows that multiplying by one results in the same number, while multiplying by two doubles the number. This section of the table is an excellent tool for reinforcing the concept of multiplication and its connection to addition.
The lesson also emphasizes the link between multiplication and division. By examining specific multiplication facts, such as 7 times 4 equals 28, students learn that these facts can be reversed to form division facts, meaning that 28 divided by 4 equals 7. Similarly, it is shown that 9 times 3 equals 27, and therefore 27 divided by 3 equals 9. This approach not only aids in memorizing the multiplication table but also instills a deeper understanding of how division is essentially the inverse operation of multiplication. Students are then encouraged to practice writing their own sets of related multiplication and division facts, further reinforcing their arithmetic skills and number fluency.
