Max Maths, Year 2, Try it, Directions
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths activity designed for Year 2 students, children are encouraged to develop their understanding of directions through a practical and engaging task. The activity involves a floor plan where students are asked to draw a route from one piece of furniture to another and then write down the corresponding instructions. For the first task, they must create a path from the sofa to the sink. This requires them to visualize the journey and translate it into a sequence of directional steps. They will have to consider turns, forward movements, and possibly the avoidance of obstacles to successfully navigate the plan.
The second task builds upon the skills practiced in the first, asking the students to draw a different route, this time from the TV to the door. Again, they must write down the step-by-step instructions for the route they have created. These exercises not only help children with spatial awareness and directionality but also with their writing skills as they articulate the instructions clearly. After completing the drawing and writing tasks, the students are directed to go to workbook pages 188 to 189, likely for further exercises or to compare their routes and instructions with reference solutions provided in the workbook.
