Max Maths, Year 2, Try it, Rounding numbers (2)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths curriculum for Year 2, students get to grips with the concept of rounding numbers to the nearest ten. One of the exercises they encounter involves practical examples that require them to approximate a given number to the closest ten. For instance, when asked to round the number 95 to the nearest 10, students are presented with options such as 80, 90, and 100. The correct answer is that 95 rounded to the nearest 10 is approximately 100, as it is closer to 100 than to 90.
Another example provided is rounding the number 11 to the nearest 10. The options here are 10, 20, and 30. In this case, the number 11 is closest to 10, so when rounded to the nearest 10, it is approximately 10. Similarly, when students are asked to round the number 88 to the nearest 10, they are given the choices of 70, 80, 90, and 100. The number 88 is closest to 90, so it rounds up to approximately 90. These exercises are designed to strengthen students' understanding of rounding numbers and can be further practiced on workbook pages 27 to 28.
