Five a Day - Calculations - Multiply divide mentally
Maths Resource Description
The "Maths Five a Day" resource offers a series of five mental arithmetic questions, designed in the style of SATs queries, to help students in Key Stage 2 sharpen their multiplication and division skills. Teachers can utilise this as a warm-up activity to gauge the students' grasp of the subject or as a retrieval practice to reinforce previously learned material. Each question is followed by an answer slide, providing immediate feedback and supporting the learning process.
The exercises include filling in missing numbers in a multiplication grid, solving division problems, and determining the correct mathematical symbols to complete number statements. For example, students are asked to find the missing digit that completes a division calculation, or to use logic and their understanding of mathematical operations to place symbols like equals, greater than, or less than between given expressions. Another task involves using given number cards to form correct multiplication equations. These activities are crafted to challenge students' mental calculation abilities and to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts.
