The Even Bigger Times Table Challenge 2
Maths Resource Description
The Even Bigger Times Table Challenge 2 is a rigorous mathematical exercise aimed at Year 6 pupils, designed to test and enhance their proficiency in multiplication, division, and square roots. This challenge, created by KS2Gems in 2020, presents a series of 100 arithmetic problems that students are encouraged to complete within a five-minute timeframe. The questions are varied, including tasks such as finding the square root of numbers (e.g., √16), squaring numbers (e.g., 3²), and performing basic multiplication and division with both single-digit and multi-digit numbers (e.g., 720 ÷ 9, 4 x 70).
The exercise is structured to not only assess the speed and accuracy of the students' mental arithmetic but also to reinforce their understanding of key mathematical concepts. Problems such as 36 ÷ 4, 20², and √256 are interspersed with multiplication problems like 6 x 3 and division tasks such as 132 ÷ 12. This mix of operations ensures a comprehensive workout for the students' numeracy skills. Upon completion of the challenge, students record their time if they finish in under five minutes and their score out of 100, providing a clear metric for both self-assessment and teacher evaluation.
