The Big Times Table Challenge 2
Maths Resource Description
The Big Times Table Challenge 2 is a rigorous and engaging mathematical exercise designed for Year 6 students to test their proficiency in multiplication, division, and square roots. This challenge, created by KS2Gems in 2020, comprises a series of 100 problems that students must aim to complete within a five-minute time frame. The worksheet is a mix of arithmetic operations including squaring and finding square roots, as well as basic multiplication and division questions. The variety of problems ensures that students must be quick and accurate with their mental maths to achieve a high score.
The challenge includes problems such as finding the square root of 16, squaring the number 3, and solving division questions like 72 divided by 9. Multiplication questions range from simple facts like 4 times 7 to more complex calculations such as 12 times 10. Square roots of perfect squares are also featured, requiring students to demonstrate their understanding of numbers that multiply by themselves to reach a given total. Upon completion, the time taken—if less than five minutes—is recorded, and a score out of 100 is given, providing a clear measure of the student's times table knowledge and speed. This exercise not only reinforces mathematical concepts but also encourages the development of quick-thinking and problem-solving skills.
