Addition and Subtract Target Board - Add 10s

KS2Gems has created an engaging educational resource for Year 3 students to practice addition and subtraction with a focus on mental calculations involving three-digit numbers and tens. The resource, known as Target Boards, is an excellent tool for reinforcing a variety of mathematical skills within short, focused sessions. These boards can be utilised at the start or end of a maths lesson, serving as an effective method for retrieval practice. They are versatile enough to be used with the entire class or in smaller group settings, with children equipped with whiteboards and pens to jot down their answers.

The Target Board presents a selection of numbers and the objective is for the children to either perform calculations using the numbers provided or to find answers that satisfy certain criteria set by the teacher. This approach allows for simultaneous differentiated challenges, as teachers can give distinct instructions to different groups. For instance, a teacher might instruct students to find as many pairs of numbers on the board that add up to a sum greater than 500.
