Time - Days of the week - Starter
Maths Resource Description
In a Year 1 mathematics lesson focused on the days of the week and basic arithmetic, students are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities to reinforce their learning. The 'Fluent in Four' revision segment challenges pupils with simple addition problems, such as combining eleven with double three to make seventeen, and adding seven to twelve to reach nineteen. These exercises are designed to help children become more confident in their mental arithmetic skills.
The lesson proceeds with a practical task where Zach is featured drinking a bottle of orange juice, and students are asked to match descriptive words—'finally', 'first', and 'next'—to a series of bottles labelled from A to F, to sequence the events correctly. This activity not only aids in understanding the concept of order but also in associating written words with their meanings. Additionally, the students are tasked with identifying and counting various 3D shapes, such as cuboids, cylinders, pyramids, cubes, spheres, and cones, which helps in developing their recognition and quantification skills. To further build on their number sequence knowledge, the children are asked to fill in missing numbers in a sequence, reinforcing their understanding of number order and counting skills.
