Give me 3 - Crime and Punishment - Year 5
History Resource Description
The "Give me 3!" activity is an engaging classroom challenge tailored for Year 5 students, focusing on the theme of 'Crime and Punishment'. Within a 15-minute time frame, pupils are prompted to recall three aspects from various categories related to the historical context of crime and punishment. For each accurate recall, students are rewarded with two points, encouraging them to draw upon their knowledge and understanding of historical practices and language from the Key Stage curriculum.
During the activity, students might be asked to identify three types of punishment that were used in the past or to list the three ordeals that individuals faced in Anglo-Saxon times to determine their guilt or innocence. They may also be challenged to remember three Anglo-Saxon words that relate to the topic or to come up with three reasons why people were hanged during that period. Additionally, the activity could prompt a discussion on how the concept of 'crime and punishment' has evolved throughout the ages, encouraging pupils to think critically about the changes in societal norms and legal practices over time.
