Who are the people that help us? - Continuous Provision

The "Who are the people that help us?" theme is a continuous provision in the classroom that aims to educate children about various community helpers and their roles. One exciting aspect of this theme is exploring the life of a firefighter. To enrich this experience, firefighters are invited to visit the school, where children have the opportunity to interact with them and ask questions. These questions are then compiled into a class book titled "What would you ask a firefighter?" Additionally, a designated area is set up in the classroom or outside where children can engage in imaginative play, pretending to be firefighters and exploring the various aspects of the job.

Similarly, the theme delves into the world of veterinary science. Children read "I am going to be a vet" to spark their curiosity and, if possible, visit a local vet to gain firsthand experience. They come prepared with questions, and the responses from the vet help create another class book, "What would you ask a vet?" To make the learning more personal, children are encouraged to bring their pets to class and share stories about them. The continuous provision also includes displaying family photographs to promote discussion, using items for role play that reflect the children's community, and creating models of local landmarks for a 3D map. These activities are designed to help children develop their vocabulary and understanding of their community. Books created from their experiences and QR codes for related videos are made available in the reading area, allowing children to revisit and reinforce their learning independently.
