The Last Bear - Session 13 - Book Review
English Resource Description
This book review template is an excellent tool for KS2 students to reflect on and evaluate their reading experience with a fiction book. The review begins by inviting the reader to delve into the characters of the story, asking for detailed descriptions of two main characters, including their names and qualities. This helps the reader to think critically about the characters' roles and to articulate their understanding of them.
The template then prompts the reader to identify their favourite character and justify their preference, encouraging deeper engagement with the text and its inhabitants. The next section focuses on the plot, guiding the student to recount the story in chronological order, touching upon the main events that drive the narrative forward. This exercise not only aids in comprehension but also in the ability to summarise and sequence events. A separate section is dedicated to the setting, where the reader is asked to describe one of the story's backdrops in detail, providing a sense of place and context for the events of the book. To conclude the review, the student is asked to rate the book overall and to share their favourite part of the story, with a reminder to use interesting vocabulary to express their thoughts and feelings about the book. This comprehensive approach to reviewing encourages students to think analytically and express their opinions articulately.
