The Hodgeheg - Session 1 - Word Workshop
English Resource Description
The Hodgeheg - Session 1 Word Workshop is a structured activity designed to enhance vocabulary skills among KS2 students. In this workshop, participants are provided with a series of words to explore in depth. For each word, students are asked to define its meaning(s), use it in a sentence, and then modify the word by adding prefixes, suffixes, changing its number or tense, to demonstrate understanding of its various forms. Additionally, they are encouraged to identify synonyms - words with similar meanings - and antonyms - words with opposite meanings, further expanding their grasp of the English language.
Examples of words presented in the workshop include 'opposite', 'dreadful', 'realise', 'popular', and 'attraction', among others. Each word is to be examined for its word class, which helps students understand grammatical categories such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. This educational exercise not only aids in vocabulary building but also develops critical thinking as students discern subtleties in word usage and context. It is an engaging way for students to interact with language and improve their communication skills.
