The Explorer - Session 20 - Word Workshop

The 'Word Workshop' is an educational activity designed to enhance vocabulary and language skills among KS2 students. In this session, students are encouraged to explore various words, their meanings, and their usage in sentences. They are tasked with manipulating words by adding prefixes or suffixes, changing their number or tense, and identifying synonyms and antonyms. For example, with the word 'opinion', students would classify it as a noun, use it in a sentence, modify it to 'opinions' for the plural form, and might list 'belief' as a synonym and 'fact' as an antonym.

Another word featured in the workshop is 'conclave', where students would again determine its part of speech, use it in context, and possibly change it to 'conclaves' to denote more than one. Synonyms for 'conclave' could include 'assembly' or 'gathering', while an antonym might be 'dispersion'. The workshop covers a range of words from various word classes, including 'reciting', 'attention', 'self-confidence', and many more, each offering a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the English language and its nuances.
