The Explorer - Session 7 - Reading Comprehension
English Resource Description
In "The Explorer" reading comprehension session focused on "The Raft," students delve into the motivations and actions of the characters involved in the construction of a raft. The questions, designed to enhance understanding, ask why Fred decides to build the raft and how Con suggests they could signal to potential rescuers. Students also explore how Con contributes to the raft-building effort and the reasons behind her assistance. Additionally, the comprehension covers what type of sustenance Con is able to procure for the group.
The latter part of the session examines the dynamics of the raft's construction, including why Fred ends up completing the raft on his own and the emotions he experiences upon its completion. Finally, students are challenged to condense the essence of "The Raft" into a succinct summary, using no more than fifty words. This exercise not only tests their understanding of the text but also their ability to express the main points clearly and concisely.
