Brightstorm - Session 14 - Word Workshop
English Resource Description
The Brightstorm Word Workshop, a resource created by KS2Gems in 2021, is an educational tool designed to enhance vocabulary and language skills among students. Each session provides a structured approach to exploring different words, their meanings, usage in sentences, and their grammatical modifications. The workshop encourages learners to expand their understanding of words by identifying synonyms and antonyms, and creatively altering words through the application of prefixes, suffixes, and changes in tense or number.
For instance, students might explore the word 'inaudible', learning its meaning, using it in a sentence, and discovering its word class. They would then be challenged to modify the word, perhaps by adding a prefix to create 'audible', and to list synonyms and antonyms. Other words such as 'stricken', 'fractured', and 'luminous' are similarly dissected, allowing students to build a rich vocabulary. The workshop format is repeated for each word, ensuring a consistent learning experience that reinforces language rules and encourages the development of a nuanced understanding of English vocabulary.
