The Invisible Man - Lesson 2 - Lesson Plan

In the second lesson of a play study on "The Invisible Man," students will focus on developing their skills in constructing extended reading response answers. The learning objective is to familiarise students with the P.E.A.R. technique, a structured approach to writing thoughtful and comprehensive responses to texts. The lesson aims to take students through different levels of understanding, starting from gaining a basic understanding to achieving a detailed understanding of how to produce a P.E.A.R. extended response.

The lesson plan includes a variety of activities to meet this objective. It begins with a five-minute starter activity where the whole class discusses 'The Scientist' to set the context. The main teaching activity spans 45 minutes and is broken down into three parts: a 10-minute analysis of the blurb, a 15-minute session where the teacher explains the P.E.A.R. technique and students create three P.E.A.R. responses in pairs, and a final 20-minute task where students transform their notes into a well-crafted extended response individually. An extension task is available for those who finish early, encouraging them to add an extra P.E.A.R. response. The lesson concludes with a 10-minute plenary where students provide feedback and discuss their findings, incorporating peer and self-assessment to evaluate their progress. Differentiation opportunities are suggested, such as editing the PowerPoint to suit different learning needs and finding a balance between teacher guidance and independent learning.
