This shaded portion represents one-half or 1/2 of the square, meaning that one of the two equal parts of the whole is coloured.
The lesson continues with another example featuring a rectangle divided into four equal segments. Similar to the previous example, one segment of the rectangle is filled in to demonstrate the fraction 1/4, which is commonly referred to as one-quarter. This visual representation helps students understand that 1/4 signifies one out of the four equal parts of the rectangle. Through these exercises, students learn to identify and name simple fractions, laying the groundwork for a deeper understanding of fractional values and their applications.
