During the sixth week of Phonics Phase 5, Unit 1, the focus is on an Assessment Week, where the primary objective is to review and consolidate the phonics knowledge that the students have acquired. The lessons are designed to be interactive and engaging, with the teacher introducing the aim of the week: a comprehensive revision of all the material covered thus far. This is a chance for the children to demonstrate their understanding and for the teacher to evaluate their progress.

The review process is structured around a variety of playful activities, which are distributed across different tables to encourage small group collaboration and learning. At Table 1, children use mini grapheme and pictophone flashcards to practice building words. Table 2 features Phrase Draw, where students illustrate images corresponding to phrases written on flashcards. At Table 3, children engage in Word Match by pairing object flashcards with their corresponding word flashcards. Worksheets are provided at Table 4 for completion, and at Table 5, children either match captions to images or create their own stories based on illustrations provided. If students complete their assigned tasks, they are encouraged to partake in quiet, independent activities such as reading, journal writing, crafting miniature storybooks, or drawing. Throughout these activities, the teacher takes the opportunity to assess individual children using specific assessment sheets designed for Phase 5 Unit 1, ensuring that each child's learning needs are met and progress is accurately measured.
