Medium Term Plan - Football - Year 5
Physical Education Resource Description
The medium-term plan for Year 5 football is structured to unfold over six lessons, with the intent of developing fundamental football skills and applying them in a controlled environment. It aims to teach students how to use tactics and strategies effectively against opponents and to understand the importance of making timely decisions in small sided games. The curriculum also emphasises the physical and mental benefits of exercise, fostering cooperation and communication among students. The knowledge component covers basic attacking principles, decision making, and game rules, while the skills component includes passing, receiving, dribbling, ball control, teamwork, and communication.
Sequential learning involves a variety of drills using different balls to develop sending and receiving skills, simple gameplay to introduce the concept of opposition, and the use of basic game rules with appropriate sanctions for rule breaking. The curriculum encompasses key concepts such as outwitting opponents through controlled performance of football skills, developing physical and mental capacity through warm-ups and gameplay, and improving decision making and problem-solving abilities. Personal development is also a crucial aspect, with a focus on British Values of respect and tolerance, as well as promoting independence and resilience. The plan culminates in evaluating performance, with peer coaching and demonstrations to improve and refine skills. Cross-curricular links are made with literacy, numeracy, and personal, social, health and economic education (PSHCRE), enhancing the overall educational impact and contributing to students' health and well-being.
