Max Maths, Year 3, Try it, Addition up to 4 digits without regrouping
Maths Resource Description
In the "Max Maths" programme for Year 3 students, there's an engaging activity designed to help children practice addition with up to four-digit numbers, specifically focusing on sums that do not require regrouping. The "Let's Try It" section encourages students to count and add the number of blocks presented in a series of illustrations. Each question is structured to incrementally build the child's confidence and proficiency in addition.
For instance, in part (a) of the exercise, children are presented with multiple blocks, each representing a number. They are then asked to add these numbers together to find the total sum. The process is repeated in parts (b) and (c), with different numbers of blocks and configurations, providing ample opportunity for practice. This hands-on approach allows students to visually comprehend addition and reinforces their understanding of combining numbers without the complexity of carrying over digits, which is known as regrouping.
