Max Maths for Year 2 presents a practical exercise to help young learners grasp the concept of division and understand remainders, a foundational element in mathematics. The 'Try It' section features a hands-on activity where students are tasked with dividing a set of coloured dots into specified groups and then identifying how many dots, if any, are left over after the division. For example, the first challenge presents 16 coloured dots that need to be divided into 3 groups. Students must determine how many dots are in each group and how many (if any) remain undivided. This exercise not only strengthens their division skills but also introduces the concept of remainders in a visual and engaging way.

The second challenge increases in complexity, with 22 coloured dots to be divided into 4 equal groups. Again, the students must figure out the number of dots in each group and the number of leftover dots. These activities encourage students to think critically about how items can be distributed evenly and what happens when they cannot be divided without a remainder.
