Max Maths, Year 2, Practice, Multiplying by 2, 3 and 4

In the Max Maths programme for Year 2, children are introduced to the concept of multiplication as a way to find the total number of items when they are grouped in equal amounts. The practice session focuses on multiplying by 2, 3, and 4. Children learn to express these groupings in the form of multiplication sentences, where the number of groups is multiplied by the number of items in each group to find the total. For example, if there are a certain number of cups, and we know how many groups of cups there are, we can calculate the total number of cups by writing and solving a multiplication sentence.

The lesson continues with practical exercises where children count items in 2s, 3s, or 4s to reinforce their understanding of multiplication. They then translate this counting into multiplication sentences, further solidifying their grasp of the concept. To practice their new skills, students are given a series of multiplication problems to solve, such as 5 times 4, 3 times 2, and up to 9 times 4. These exercises help to build confidence and proficiency in early multiplication. For additional practice and reinforcement, children are directed to workbook pages 89 to 94, where they can find more multiplication problems and activities to complete.
