Max Maths, Year 2, Learn together, Addition pairs to 100
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths programme for Year 2, students are learning to identify and understand addition pairs that sum up to 100. This concept builds on their existing knowledge of basic addition facts, such as 2 + 8 equalling 10, and extends it to larger numbers, demonstrating that 20 + 80 equals 100. Through the "Let's Learn Together" section, children are encouraged to explore these relationships with the help of a table that records these addition pairs, making it easier to visualise and remember the combinations that make up 100.
One of the activities includes using the knowledge of addition pairs to create a family of related addition and subtraction facts. For example, if a child knows that 30 + 70 equals 100, they can also deduce that 70 + 30 equals 100, and consequently, that subtracting one of the numbers from 100 will yield the other number, as in 100 − 30 equals 70, and 100 − 70 equals 30. These exercises help to reinforce the concept of addition pairs and develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction, which are fundamental skills in early mathematics education.
