Max Maths, Year 1, Learn together, Counting by twos, fives and tens
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths programme for Year 1, young learners embark on an exciting numerical journey as they explore the concept of counting in multiples. The 'Let's Learn Together' section introduces children to the foundational skill of counting from 1 to 100 by ones, and then in reverse from 100 back to 1. This exercise not only solidifies their understanding of the number sequence but also reinforces their ability to recognise and recall numbers in order.
After mastering the sequence of counting by ones, the lesson progresses to counting by larger increments—specifically by twos, fives, and tens. This skill is crucial as it lays the groundwork for understanding multiplication and develops mental arithmetic abilities. The children are encouraged to count from 10 to 100 by tens, celebrating their achievement of reaching 100 with a cheerful "We did it! We counted to 100!" To further consolidate their learning, the children are then directed to complete activities on pages 92 to 93 of their workbook, which provide practical exercises to apply their newly acquired counting skills.
