Problem solving frame

The Problem-Solving Frame is a structured tool designed to assist Key Stage 2 students in methodically approaching and solving mathematical problems. At the top of the frame, there is a space for the student to write their name and date, personalising the worksheet for their use. The frame is divided into sections, one of which is for an 'Apparatus Picture'. This is where students can draw representations of any physical objects or tools they are using to help solve the problem, such as counters, number lines, or shapes. Visualising the problem can often help in understanding and solving it.

Another key section of the Problem-Solving Frame is designated for the 'Number Sentence'. In this area, students are encouraged to translate the problem into a mathematical equation or expression. This could involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or combinations of operations depending on the complexity of the problem. By converting the problem into a number sentence, students can apply their arithmetic skills to find a solution.
