Time - Assessment
Maths Resource Description
The Time Assessment for Year 1 is a comprehensive evaluation designed to test young learners' understanding of time-related concepts. The assessment begins with a straightforward task where students must match given times, such as 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock, to the correct positions on a clock face. They are also asked to write down the time displayed on each clock, with 'o'clock' as a cue. The test includes a practical application question where students determine which day of the week a character named Zach is going to the cinema, based on the information that today is Saturday.
Further challenges in the assessment involve completing a sequence of weekdays and identifying times shown on clocks, such as 'half past 4' and '3 o'clock'. Students are encouraged to reflect on their confidence level with time through a self-assessment scale. They also sort activities into the correct time of day and identify which clock hand points to the 6 during a 'half past' time. Additionally, the assessment includes a problem-solving element where students calculate which of three children swam for the longest duration, using units of time such as minutes and hours. The exercise is designed to develop both their numerical skills and their understanding of daily routines and time intervals.
