Money - Assessment
Maths Resource Description
The Money Assessment for Year 1 is a comprehensive tool designed to evaluate the understanding of currency and its values among young learners. The assessment comprises various tasks that require students to demonstrate their knowledge of coins and their respective values. One of the initial tasks involves matching coins to their correct values, which helps to solidify the recognition of different denominations. Another task prompts students to circle the 20p coin from a selection, testing their ability to identify specific coins.
Further exercises within the assessment include completing sentences that equate a certain number of coins to a specified value, challenging the pupils to apply their counting and equivalence skills. The sorting of coins into pounds and pence categories provides a practical approach to distinguishing between the two units of currency. Comparisons between amounts using the symbols for less than, greater than, or equal to encourage analytical thinking in relation to monetary value. The assessment also features a section where students express their confidence level with money on a scale from 'not confident' to 'very confident'. Additionally, there are questions that ask students to identify combinations of coins that equate to £1, and a true/false section that addresses the shape of coins, promoting critical thinking and attention to detail. The variety of tasks within this assessment ensures a well-rounded approach to evaluating a student's competency with money.
