Common Factors Activity - PowerPoint
Maths Resource Description
The "Common Factors Activity" is an engaging resource for Year 5 students, designed to deepen their understanding of multiplication and division through the exploration of factors. This activity requires students to identify and list the factors of given numbers and then determine the common factors between pairs of numbers. For example, when examining the factors of 12 and 28, students would list out the individual factors for each number and then use a Venn diagram to visually represent and find the common factors, which in this case are 1, 2, and 4.
Through a series of similar exercises, pupils are tasked with finding the factors of various number pairs such as 30 and 21, 15 and 32, 44 and 66, and more. Each exercise challenges them to fill in the Venn diagrams accordingly and identify the common factors. For instance, the common factors of 72 and 60 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12, while the common factors of 36 and 54 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 18. This activity not only reinforces the concept of factors but also encourages critical thinking and the application of mathematical principles in a visual and interactive way.
