Take from 20
Maths Resource Description
Take From 20 is an engaging and educational game designed to help children practice counting back from 20. The game is suitable for young learners who are developing their subtraction skills and understanding of numbers. To play, participants will need a dice labelled with the numbers 0 to 9, a Teens Board filled with numbers ranging from 10 to 19, and a set of counters for each player.
The game is played by taking turns to roll the dice and then subtracting the rolled number from 20. Players can use their fingers or a number line to count back, ensuring they vocalise each number for better comprehension. For instance, if a player rolls a 4, they count back from 20 as "19, 18, 17, 16" and then place a counter on the number 16 on the Teens Board. The goal of the game is to be the first to align four counters in a row, whether horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Throughout the game, players are encouraged to discuss the counting back strategy and the importance of saying each number aloud to reinforce their learning.
