Number 13 - CanDo Bonds

Number 13 takes centre stage in the CanDo Bonds activity, where children are encouraged to explore and understand the concept of number bonds to 13 through a variety of engaging and interactive tasks. The activities are designed to help children create, identify, and use these bonds in different contexts. The 'Create it' section involves completing dominoes so that each pair adds up to 13, either by jotting down dots or writing the number. This reinforces the idea that two numbers can be combined in different ways to reach the same total.

The 'Colour it' segment adds a visual element to learning, where children can add the numbers on a character's wings and colour parts of the illustration if the sum equals 13. This is further extended in 'Join it', where learners colour boxes on a grid to form a path, each box representing a pair of numbers that sum to 13. The 'Jot it' section requires writing number sentences for each pair of numbers that make 13, enhancing their understanding of addition. Additionally, children can 'Snap it' by starting with 13 cubes and breaking off a number to see what remains, translating this into number sentences.
