Number 12 - CanDo Bonds

The "CanDo Bonds" activity is designed to help children understand and practice the concept of number bonds for the number 12. It consists of a variety of engaging tasks that encourage students to explore different combinations that add up to 12. In the "Create it" section, children are prompted to colour the bars to find seven different ways to make 12, and then write down the corresponding number sentences. They also complete dominoes, ensuring each pair sums up to 12, either by jotting down dots or writing the exact numbers.

The activity continues with "Join it," where students add two numbers on a character named Colin’s antlers and colour his nose if they total 12. They also colour boxes to form a path across a grid where each box's sum equals 12. The "Jot it" section provides a series of incomplete number sentences which the children need to complete to make the sum of 12. Additionally, "Snap it" involves starting with 12 cubes, snapping off a specified number, and then writing the resulting subtraction number sentence. "Solve it" encourages students to draw bar models to represent and solve problems that involve making 12. Finally, the "Make it" and "Model it" sections present real-life scenarios that require the children to calculate and write various number sentences to show different ways to make or subtract from 12, enhancing their understanding of part-part-whole relationships.
