The Slave Board Game - Activity - Year 5
History Resource Description
The Slave Board Game is an interactive educational activity designed for Year 5 students to engage with the history of slavery and the slave trade, particularly focusing on Britain's role. As part of the task, students are tasked with creating a set of 16 questions that will be integrated into the board game. These questions should be derived from the initial pages of the unit they are studying or from an online video clip they have watched, ensuring the content is relevant and educational. The aim is to encourage students to process and recall the information they have learned in a dynamic and collaborative way.
Once the questions have been formulated, students must then devise a set of rules for playing the game. These rules should be clear, concise, and ensure fair play. After the game and rules have been created, the students will exchange their game with another team of four, who will play it and provide feedback. The evaluating team will use a set of criteria, outlined on the subsequent page of the instructions, to assess the game. They will award points based on how well the game functions, the relevance and accuracy of the questions, and the enjoyment factor. This activity not only aids in learning about a significant historical subject but also develops students' abilities to work as a team, create educational resources, and critically evaluate each other's work.
