Give me 3 - Famous people
History Resource Description
The "Give me 3!" activity is an engaging educational task aimed at prompting children to recall and list information about various topics, including famous individuals. Participants are incentivised to remember as many names as possible within a 15-minute timeframe, with each correct answer earning them two points. The exercise is designed to be inclusive and accessible, as children are not penalised for spelling mistakes, thereby encouraging them to focus on the retrieval of information rather than the precision of their writing.
In addition to recalling famous people, the activity extends to other areas of memory recall. Children are asked to list three things that happened in the recent past - last week, last half term, and last year, which helps to contextualise their memories and understanding of time. Specific prompts are provided to aid memory retrieval, such as recalling facts about the Queen, famous people in general, and the influential suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. The exercise not only serves as a fun quiz but also as a valuable tool for teachers to assess the children's retention of historical and cultural knowledge. This task is part of a Year 1 Retrieval Task series, which is designed to encourage young learners to consolidate and recall information they have learned, as outlined by Focus Education (UK) Ltd.
