Cops and robbers - What do you know about Fairtrade?
Geography Resource Description
The "Cops and Robbers" activity is an engaging and collaborative educational exercise designed to test and expand pupils' knowledge about Fairtrade. In this activity, pupils are grouped into teams of four and given the task to individually recall and note down what they know about Fairtrade within a two-minute timeframe. This initial phase allows each pupil to reflect on their own understanding and information they can remember without assistance.
Following this, each pupil is given 60 seconds to review the work of their three teammates, searching for any information they did not initially recall on their own. This part of the exercise encourages active listening, sharing, and cooperative learning, as pupils identify new pieces of information—referred to as 'stolen knowledge'—that they have learned from their peers. They then add this newly acquired information to the 'stolen knowledge' section of their table. The activity is interactive and competitive, as each piece of information recorded is awarded two points, with the entire activity designed to last around 15 minutes. This method helps to reinforce the importance and principles of Fairtrade while promoting teamwork and peer learning.
