Homophones 3 Presentation
English Resource Description
A comprehensive presentation titled "Homophones 3" has been created for Year 5 and Year 6 students, with the learning objective (LO) of using the correct spelling for homophones. Homophones are words that sound identical but have different spellings and meanings. This educational resource is designed to introduce, consolidate, and revise the understanding of these commonly confused words. It includes a variety of activities that can be adapted to suit the class's needs, including whole class work on whiteboards and independent or paired tasks. These activities encourage students to practise spelling and to understand the usage of homophones by matching them to their correct definitions.
The presentation contains a spelling list which is divided into two sections, each featuring a set of homophones such as 'council' and 'counsel', 'currant' and 'current', and 'patience' and 'patients'. It also includes exercises where students must select the correct homophone based on given definitions, such as matching 'a dried fruit' with 'currant' and 'now' with 'current'. Furthermore, the resource instructs students to use a dictionary to verify the meanings of unfamiliar words and to write sentences in their English books using the words from the spelling list accurately. This approach not only helps in spelling accuracy but also in enhancing vocabulary and understanding of word classes.
