Brightstorm - Session 12 - Explain
English Resource Description
Brightstorm's Session 12 presents a thought-provoking exercise aimed at stimulating the imagination and analytical thinking of KS2 students. The session poses a series of open-ended questions about a large silver insect, inviting pupils to explore their own ideas and hypotheses. Students are encouraged to ponder the nature of this mysterious creature, its actions, and its possible owner. This activity not only sparks curiosity but also allows children to practice expressing their thoughts in written form.
The format of the session is designed to give students a structured way to organise their responses. They are prompted to consider what the insect might be, engaging their creativity and drawing on their knowledge of the natural world or science fiction. They then move on to speculate on what the insect could be doing, which encourages them to think about behaviour and purpose. Finally, they are asked to imagine who the insect might belong to, opening the door to storytelling and character development. Each question is followed by space for the student to write "I think," providing a personal touch to their answers. The students are also asked to write their name, making each response unique and individualised.
