Brightstorm - Session 1 - Word Workshop
English Resource Description
The Brightstorm Word Workshop is a comprehensive session designed to enhance vocabulary skills among KS2 students. In this workshop, students are encouraged to explore various aspects of a word, including its meaning(s), usage in sentences, modifications through prefixes or suffixes, and its grammatical class. Additionally, they delve into the word's synonyms and antonyms, enriching their understanding of language and its nuances.
For example, students might take the word 'chug' and identify it as a verb, use it in a sentence like "The old train chugged along the tracks," and then modify it to 'chugging' or 'chugged' to change the verb tense. They would also list synonyms such as 'rumble' or 'puff' and antonyms like 'idle'. This methodical approach is applied to a diverse set of words, including 'engrossed', 'insisted', 'adjusting', and many more, allowing students to build a robust vocabulary and apply it effectively in various contexts.
